Fully Finished Hairwork Braiding Tables
Improved design with more functionality than previous versions! After realizing how challenging it is to find the tools to practice this art, my dad and I have spent the past two years developing and perfecting what I envisioned as the ‘perfect’ braiding table for hairwork, and here they are. We make them ourselves, from the raw wood to the finished product. Craftsmanship you won’t find anywhere else—designed from the ground up to bring ease and precision to your hairwork practice.
Each table in this batch is made from hard maple, with a smooth, hand-finished surface that’s gentle on the eyes and hair strands alike. Maple's natural light color minimizes eye strain, keeping you focused on your braiding, while the updated rotating top provides a smooth transition between steps.
NEW! The tops now spin. We've added a slight dip (aka well) in the center and peg holes around the perimeter that can be optionally used to help keep your strands in place for different patterns.

Sturdy and sustainable materials. Made of natural hardwoods, no plastic or laminate. Beautiful and durable.
Extra smooth finish. All braiding top surfaces and edges are rounded and hand-sanded to prevent hairs from snagging; this is very important.
No hardware. The legs are 3/4" birch dowels that fit snugly into place. If you want a taller table, you can find longer dowels at a hardware or craft store and cut them to whatever length you need.
Portable. They’re relatively small and can be disassembled for manageable travel and shipping. The table is approx. 10.5 inches (26.6 cm) tall, tops are approx. 7 inches (17.5 cm) around, and the center hole is approx. 2 inches (5 cm). This size comes with 20 predrilled peg holes. Ideally, these tops will fit around 20-24 strands/sections at once.
If you'd like to braid patterns with more strands (25+), larger tops (10-12”) can be ordered separately (and fit on the same stand); please contact me directly for availability.
The tables are finished with 100% natural mineral oil and beeswax butter. If your table looks thirsty, you can easily re-apply a coat. I will include a small tin with your order.
Bobbin weights and pegs are sold separately.
Final Sale/No Returns. International orders are responsible for their own customs & taxes.
Please review these details on my FAQ page before checking out. If you have any questions or need assistance before placing your order, please email me.
How to learn hairwork?
This type of hair work is called “table work” or “table braiding.” Please check my Events for classes, but if you can’t make it to one of those, fear not; I am currently developing online materials. In the meantime, you’re welcome to read the book that started it all for me and give it a go! “The Art of Hairwork” by Mark Campbell (Chicagoan), 1867. You can find it free on Project Gutenberg, but the scans aren’t so great, and the braiding patterns are difficult to see - https://www.gutenberg.org/files/38658/38658-h/38658-h.htm
For this reason, I’ve had my personal 1893 edition of the book professionally scanned, and it is now available for you to download in the highest quality PDF available. Plus, it has bonus pages too!
