Black Cobbler's Wax Skull
Black cobbler's wax is a traditional blend of pitch, pine rosin, and beeswax. Its historical significance spans centuries, and this versatile wax has found application in various domains such as shoemaking, shipbuilding, and fly tying.
But I've also found it very handy in the art of hairwork. The tackiness of the wax provides the grip needed to grab and securely hold your hair bundles before, during, and after braiding. There's nothing worse than your threads slipping and having it all come apart on you. I had not previously heard it described for this purpose, but it helps so much that I wanted to share this tool with you, too.
To use: Warm the wax in your hands, then draw a length of thread between the wax and your finger until the desired amount has been applied. To preserve it longer, store it in your freezer. A piece of leather is included for use as a hand grip.
